WOLVISTON MAKE HARD WORK OF VISIT TO YORKSHIRE

Northallerton 4 Wolviston Juniors 6

On a small pitch that made good, passing football difficult at best, Wolviston found themselves a goal down after only 10 minutes of scrappy play, when Northallerton knocked a short, high ball over a hopeful defensive line and were caught napping as their striker cracked in a gift goal after beating the off-side trap. Wolviston’s response was sharp and after another five minutes a cross that was a shade too high dropped into mid-fielder Brogan’s path and he headed the equaliser with relative ease. Wolviston pressed home and although Northallerton resisted well, Clayton claimed number two by hammering the ball through the defence into the bottom corner. Wolviston were on a high at this point and shortly after, Clayton got his second when he tapped in a simple goal from a throw-in that everyone in Northallerton’s defence missed. Phil Youdale found himself in a scoring position before half time when Richardson’s header crossed the goal mouth and Youdale finished cleanly with his left foot.

Half-time 1-4

Wolviston’s confidence was up when the second half kicked off and an early Northallerton own-goal from a cross made their heads drop. After 48 minutes Northallerton got their first life-line with a dubious penalty awarded when the referee saw a push and arms raised in the box. Northallerton scored and fought back to 3-5 with a superb headed goal from a cross after 58 minutes. Northallerton’s belief that they were back in the game was short lived and after numerous attacks Wolviston scored again and Clayton got his hat-trick from a low hard shot in the opposition’s box to make it 3-6. Although Wolviston pressed home and should have a had a hat-full, they failed to convert and Northallerton came back with another gift when Wolviston committed too many men forward and their over-confidence resulted in a break with only the keeper to beat and the final score was 4-6.
